Target Plus is the marketplace you cannot sign up for. There is no registration button, no onboarding wizard — Target handpicks the brands it wants, and everyone else waits. That exclusivity is precisely why it is worth pursuing: a listing on Target Plus competes with a handful of curated sellers, not the thousand-deep pile of an Amazon search result.
How the door actually opens
Target selects sellers; sellers do not select Target. The practical entry points are two. First, the interest form at partners.target.com — a preliminary screen where you describe the brand, the catalog and the operations. Second, and more common in practice: Target's merchandising team finds you, usually because your brand already performs on Amazon or Walmart and fills a gap in Target's assortment.
That means the application is mostly written before you apply. Brand health, reviews, category fit, fulfillment record — Target reads the track record you have built elsewhere. Building a clean, well-reviewed operation on the other marketplaces is the Target Plus strategy.
What Target expects once you are in
- A registered US business with US-based operations — no exceptions.
- Fast dispatch. Orders out the door within about a day, consistently. Target's promise to its guests rides on your dock.
- Price discipline. Your Target price cannot sit above your price elsewhere — the same parity logic Walmart enforces, and it is checked.
- Retail-grade content. Image and data standards closer to a retail buyer's expectations than a marketplace's minimums.
The economics are friendly: no setup fee, no monthly fee, a referral rate typically in the 5–15% range — lower than Amazon in many categories, and with far less internal competition per page.
Getting ready before the invitation
Nearly every requirement above is a logistics requirement. A brand that dispatches in 24 hours without fail, keeps inventory accurate and ships retail-compliant cartons is invitable; a brand that does those things sometimes is not. That operational floor is buildable before Target ever calls — and it pays for itself on your existing channels in the meantime.
We run that floor for brands from our Kent, WA warehouse: pick and pack with same-day dispatch, pallet storage, retail routing-guide compliance, and one inventory pool feeding every marketplace at once. More on working with Target specifically is on our Target page.
